Three Counties Running Club impress at Run Norwich 10k
Three Counties running club members took part in The Run Norwich 10k race last week.
The event is an ward-winning road race organised by Norwich City FC’s official charity partner, the Community Sports Foundation, that takes place in the heart of the city centre.
The route passes some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including Norwich Castle, The Forum, and Norwich Cathedral.
Despite amber wind warnings and gruelling gusts, a record 6,761 of runners came and conquered the streets of the city.
Runners were rallied into their pens with great efficiency in anticipation of the 9.30am horn, which was sounded by none other than Norwich City FC club captain Grant Hanley, who was this year’s official race starter.
The course itself is split into two halves, with the first mainly downhill and the second uphill. Even with the weather warning, it was still very muggy.
Ten TCRC members enjoyedd fantastic runs. First home for the club was Jonny Clark in 49:08, and he was followed by Phil Newton (49:49), Lauren Day (50:02CPB), Gary Ingrey (50:32), Vicki Newton (51:37), Sarah Johnson (52:22CPB), Sarah Melton-Whitelam (57:47), Lorraine Parker (58:20), Steve Whitelam (1:06:46) and Sarah Lamb (1:11:01).
Elsewhere, TCRC member Jacqueline McGonigle took part in a sell-out event at the llkey Half Marathon in West Yorkshire. Jacqueline is coming back from illness, so did amazingly well to not only take part but also complete the hilly course.
The event was organised by llkey Round table and they raise funds for good causes. In 2019 they raised a staggering £35,000, and this time around Jacqueline finished in a great time of 3:01:00.
