Barcode Challenge for Three Counties Running Club
Three Counties Running Club are still lapping up the challenges during this very uncertain time and this week’s was The Barcode Challenge.
The idea was to run your parkrun bar code number. So for example, if your barcode number was A1572351, the total would be 24 miles done on one run as the digits add up to 24, or you could split the run into two, three, four or up to seven runs.
The first run could be six (one plus five) miles, 6km or 15 miles or kms then seven on run two. Then a five miles/km(two plus three) and so on until complete.
Members had seven days to complete the challenge and were allowed to run or walk the distance which could either be in miles or kilometres as some of the barcode numbers were quite high.
There were great efforts by all who got stuck into the challenge and although the heat didn’t help matters, some members covered double the distances they normally would in a week.
Members who took part were: Tracey Else 36, Sarah-Jane Macdonald 27, Alice Ingman 36, Sarah Lamb 16, Dawn Ball 27, Sandra Rhodes 39, Anne-Marie Mattless 27, Matt Hunter 24, Mandy Doggett 40, Victoria May 23, Janette Smith 29, Tony Lamb 22, Jayne Spurrier 33, Colin Apps 22 and Amy Baxter 23.
• Three Counties were recently invited to a challenge from March AC to spell their running club’s name out on a Strava map while either out running or walking.
Members were assigned a letter from the words ‘Three Counties Running Club’ and they then had to ‘make’ them on Strava.
• Junior runner Isaac Western took part in a virtual 1.5k charity run to raise money for ‘Run for our Heroes’.
• Fenland Running Club also accepted March’s Strava challenge. Some 18 runners gladly took part and the challenge has now been passed on to the Greater Peterborough Athletics Network (GPAN).
