Wisbech Fenland Running Club members shine at Heckington 10-mile
On Saturday, as part of the Heckington Show, seven Fenland Running Club members took on the popular 10-mile race.
The latest stage of Fenland Running Club’s championships saw the first three runners finish with personal bests despite the race at Heckington becoming a “torrential ten” mile event as the summer storm clouds deluged the runners.
Steve Bennington was first home in 1:12-29, just ahead of Gary Clifford in 1:14-59.
The pair rivalled each other over much of the course that comprised two laps from the village to Star Fen and back.
Adrian Searle chased them home in 1:27-20 and was delighted with his time.
FRC’s women performed well around the wet two-lap circuit, with Jac Richards over the line first in 1:33-41.
She was followed by Tracy Adams and Julie Garner who ran together for much of the route.
Barbara Welbourn completed the septet in 1:45-37.
A very wet and dismal Sunday saw Rachael Nichols flying the flag for FRC at the Littleport 10k.
This was a multi-terrain course starting and finishing at the Littleport Leisure Centre.
Rachael finished the 6.2 miles in a time of 56.08.
On Sunday, July 21, four FRC members took part in Run Norwich 10k with a record number of 6,198 runners. First home for Fenland was Claudia Milburn followed closely by her dad Ian Milburn. In warm conditions the race went past Norwich castle round the football ground and back through Norwich cathedral the course has a number inclines mainly in the second half of the course.
Full results: Claudia Milburn 48:02, position 934; Ian Milburn 50:16, 3rd in his age category, position 1338; Stacie Mann 56:58, position 2706; and Lucy Hicks 1:04:34, position 4154.
