Leverington Three Counties Running Club, Active Fenland and Tesco provide extra lighting in Wisbech Park for safety

Three Counties Running Club are all about being involved and supporting the community and one of their many fundraisers was to provide some extra lighting in Wisbech Park.

TCRC, who hold one of their evening sessions in the park, was concerned how dark and unsafe certain areas felt and wanted to do something about it.

Coach Gary Bligh said: “The lights we hope will benefit the whole community and help inhibit anti social behaviour and will make the park a safe place for everyone. This will also provide a safe running environment for all runners and particularly TCRC, who offer a free trackless session on a Monday evening starting at 7pm and is for all abilities.”

With the help and support to raise the money from Active Fenland and FDC, TCRC raised the rest of the funds by winning the Tesco bags for help scheme and also by holding community events throughout the year like The Santa Run, Halloween Run and Easter Run.

The new lights will also help towards a safe lit area for the town's first junior running club (TCRC Juniors) which will be a fully UKA accredited coached sessions for 8 to 18 year-olds and hoping to be up and running early 2020.

TCRC have managed to raise £1,000 towards getting members trained as qualified junior coaches and are still looking to raise another £600. If any businesses would like to support this it would be very much appreciated.

TCRC also hold their annual 10k race on Remembrance Day, The GM10K. This race also provides funds for community projects throughout the year and also support the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal.

TCRC sessions are for anyone: if you haven’t run before, coming back from injury, or would like to get fit.

Sessions are: Monday 7-8pm Wisbech Park (free); Tuesday 9.30-10.30am Wisbech Park (free); Wednesday 7-8pm Leverington Sports & Social Club (club session); Friday 7-8pm Long Sutton Church car park.
