March AC's Luke Brown and Toni Alcaraz impress at Stamford Striders St Valentines 30k
The weather has been cruel to the winter athletics race season with periods of torrential rain and exceptional storms with high winds.
March AC had to postpone its much-loved Hereward Relay race from Peterborough to Ely in November due to substantial flooding on the route. Sadly the rescheduled date then coincided with Storm Ciara, ending up with it having to be cancelled outright.
The following weekend Storm Dennis saw the postponement of the Stamford Striders St Valentines 30k.
Thankfully, that race was able to go ahead this weekend (23rd), despite still very blustery conditions. Twelve March AC runners completed the “challenging” 18 mile course, which is described as “undulating” by the race organisers, which is race-speak for very hilly, something Fen runners view with great trepidation! 1st March runner home was Luke Brown in an impressive 38th position. First March lady home was Toni Alcaraz; her fantastic run meant that she was 4th woman overall, with a prize for first place in her age category FV 45.
Elsewhere five March AC runners completed a muddy Winter Peterborough 10k at Ferry Meadows, with Steve Starr bringing in the runners, and Sydney Davis recorded her first run in a March AC vest at the Leicestershire half marathon at Loughborough.
