Leverington Three Counties Running Club's fantastic Peterborough turnout at 5k Anna’s Hope fun run and Perkins Half Marathon
Three Counties Running Club had a fantastic turnout at Peterborough on Sunday for the 5k Anna’s Hope fun run and Perkins Half Marathon – despite the weather.
The 5k Anna’s Hope fun run went off on schedule at 10am with four TCRC members taking part amongst the 868-runner field.
First club member home was 14-year-old Maisie Macdonald in a PB time of 24:36. Sarah Melton-Whitelam, Lauren Day and Cheryl Lenton – who were running for fun – ran the race together and crossed the line in a great time of 28:18.
The half marathon set to start at 10.30am was delayed and runners who were already wet from the heavy rain were starting to get very cold.
At 11am runners were told the race had been cancelled due to suspicious activity on the course at 11 miles and it was not safe to let the event go ahead.
3C stated: “A very sad day for the organisers, supporters and runners and a lot from the club who had trained very hard for their first half marathon, but everyone realised that safety in these events is paramount.”
Members ready for the start line were Steve and Sandra Rhodes, Lee and Sarah Johnson, Mark and Anne-Marie Mattless, Melvin Green, Arthur Sargeant, Steve Whitelam, Sarah Lamb, Amy Baxter, Michelle Brown, Sarah Clark, Tracey Else, Stewart Harrison, Gary Ingrey, Alice Ingman, Matthew Knott, Johnny Beesley, Rickie Trundle, Richard Stapleton, Louise Drew, Kim Coultard, Zoe Gourley, Daniel Barnes, Matt Hunter and Leanne Taylor.
Dawn Ball took part in a fun 5k event with nearly 1,000 runners called Glow in the Park. The night event was held at Peterborough Arena, East of England Showground and was for runners and walkers of all ages. Participants were encouraged to dress bright, grab their glow sticks and glow in the park.
As this was a fun event there was no times but Dawn finished 4th overall and 2nd female with the help of her cheer squad Tracey, Casey and Cody.
Junior Parkrun saw 17 runners brave the rain with 8 being TCRC Junior Runners. First home was Alex Wilson 7:40, Jamie Wilson 8:07, Zoe Wilson 8:20, Daniel Beitans 10:26, Isaac Western 10:55, Luke Wilson 11:5, Annika Beitane 13:42 and Emma Wilson 16:05.
