Flying Ryan from Friday Bridge goes pro with Blues
Ryan Hutler from Friday Bridge has signed a first team professional contract with Championship rugby club, Bedford Blues.
The 20 year-old has been with Bedford Blues Academy from the age of 16 and is a true success story for the Academy.
After bursting onto the scene with an impressive hat-trick against the Army in the 2017 Mobbs Memorial Match, Hutler continued his development with Bishop’s Stortford in National 2 (South) helping them to promotion to National One.
While in the Academy, Hutler featured in the three pre-season friendlies at Bedford against Plymouth, Saracens and Blackheath as well as making a further five first team appearances for the Blues. Blues director of rugby Mike Rayer said: “It’s fantastic that Ryan has agreed a deal to stay at Goldington Road for the coming campaign.
“He is a young, ambitious player who has great skills and will offer plenty of options next season.
“He’s a talented winger who has spent the past two seasons really honing his craft and is now all set to be part of the first team squad. He’s really benefited from his time with Bishop’s Stortford as well as training with the Blues, but now’s the time for him to really come into his own and stake a claim for a starting jersey.”
At the beginning of the month Ryan was invited by Premiership club, Saracens to play for their 7s team in the annual Greene King IPA Rugby Super Sevens International Tournament, which is known for attracting some of the world’s best 7s teams.
Saracens deservedly took the Elite trophy, overcoming in the final a strong International Samurai squad.
