Wisbech St Mary A are champs but Outwell Swifts made to wait
Wisbech St Mary A have been crowned the Cambs League Division 4B champions and Wimblington have achieved promotion from Senior B, but already-promoted Outwell Swifts need to win on Tuesday to claim the 2B title, while March Town Reserves and Chatteris Town must play a waiting game.
Saints wrapped up the league title when they won 3-0 at home on Wednesday night against Mepal and Sutton Reserves, Pawel Kalvzny, Billy Barnes and sub Martin Wright scoring.
March Academy finish fifth despite losing their last two games, Barry Brooks and Jack Conyard scoring in a 5-2 home defeat to Pymoor on Wednesday and Callum Kirby netting in a 3-1 reverse at home to Hartford Rangers Reserves on Saturday.
Chatteris Town A finish seventh but also lost their final two games, both 3-0 away from home, to Stretham Reserves and Mepal and Sutton Reserves. Outwell Swifts Reserves finish bottom with just three points from their 22 games. Their final defeat was 12-0 at home to Willingham Wolves on Wednesday.
Outwell Swifts beat Littleport Town 2-1 in 2B on Wednesday, with Brandon Hedge hitting his 33rd goal of the season and Adan-Jay Lewis claiming his 21st from the penalty spot. Already promoted, Swifts knew a draw at home to second-place Huntingdon United Reserves on Saturday would see them claim the title, but a 4-0 defeat leaves them needing to beat third-from-bottom side Manea United at home on Tuesday evening.
Wisbech St Mary Reserves finish eighth after losing their last game of the season, 4-2 at home to Wicken Wicken Amateurs, Tom Chilton Snr and Roman Kovatic scoring. Manea lost 2-0 to visiting Huntingdon United Reserves on Tuesday.
After a stutter in midweek, Wimblington hauled themselves over the line to gain promotion from Senior B with a 3-2 win at bottom side Swavesey Institute. Connor Mazurek scored a late winner, with Billy Munns and Rory Parker also on target as Wimblington finish second in the table. On Tuesday night they had lost 5-1 at home to fifth-place Fordham, Martin Porter scoring.
March Town Reserves also lost in midweek, 3-2 at St Ives Town FC Reserves, before beating Linton Granta by the same scoreline at home on Saturday. The Hares finish fourth and they will have to wait until late July when the 2024/25 divisions are arranged to see whether that is enough for promotion.
March took the lead against a very strong St Ives team through a Reece Thompson effort, but the home side equalised before the break. In an end-to-end game, Blake Cowley beat his man and whipped in a fantastic cross for Thompson to tap in from close range to make it 2-1. However, the home team equalised again and scored the winner on the break.
Against Linton Granta, March were exceptional in the first half and led 2-0 inside four minutes, Josh Kirby slotting in the first and a defender turning in Sam Bedwell’s cross for the second. After the break, however, Linton got back into it and made it 2-1 before James Rose restored the two-goal lead from the penalty spot. The Hares conceded again late on but the victory was already assured.
Wisbech St Mary rounded off a disappointing season with an impressive 7-1 home win over Witchford 96 on Friday evening. The Saints finish ninth in the 13-team Cambs County League Premier Division after goals from Wisbech Town dual signing Toby Allen (2), Keenan Hall, Robbie Knight, Grant Rider and subs Krzysztof Masiarz and Callum Taylor ensured a big win.
Chatteris Town Reserves finish fifth in 1B after four points from their final two games, Alfie Richardson netted in a 1-1 draw at Witchford 96 Reserves on Wednesday evening when Stan Leach was named man of the match, and on Saturday man of the match Joe Stead notched a hat-trick in a 6-2 home win against March Town A, Charlie Munns, Jack Rudkin and Anesu Terera also on target. On Wednesday, March Town A lost 4-2 at home to Exning United, Tom Hubbard and Luca Middleton notching for the young Hares.
Leverington Sports’ Peterborough League Premier Division title hopes were ended with a 4-1 home defeat against leaders Moulton Harrox on Tuesday, Daniel Palmer scoring. Despite two defeats, Tydd sit outside the relegation places and are safe for another season. Marley Hamilton scored a hat-trick and Charlie Michella and Kelton Stringer also notched as they lost 6-5 at home to third-place Crowland in midweek, but it was not so close on Saturday when visitors Stanground Sports thumped a lacklustre and depleted home side 8-1, Marcio Martins netting for Tydd.
Second-place Chatteris Town beat bottom side Wisbech Town Reserves 4-0 at West Street in a Fenland derby, Sam Bond netting twice to make it 31 for the season and Jack McLoughlin and Martin Saunders also netting their 16th and 19th respectively. To assure promotion. The Lilies must win at Holbeach United Sports next Saturday and hope that third-place Cardea drop three points from their last four games.
On Tuesday evening, Wisbech Town Reserves lost 3-2 at home to Wittering Premiair Reserves, Leandro Borges netting both. Long Sutton Athletic finish 12th from 16 after a 3-2 home defeat to Park Farm Pumas, James Ward and Jamal Nyang the scorers..
Leverington Sports Reserves finish eighth in Division Two after four points from their final two games. Robert Hitchcock claimed a hat-trick, Louie Garner scored twice and Samuel Fabela opened the scoring as they beat Sutton Bridge United 6-4 on Wednesday evening, Ryan Brothwell, Mark Garner, Ben Partridge and sub Joseph Sutton scoring for United.
