Wisbech St Mary boss Beckett looks towards tough opener
Wisbech St Mary start their Eastern Counties League Division One North campaign with a home game against Sheringham on Saturday.
It will be a tough opener against a Norfolk outfit tipped to be one of the promotion challengers.
Manager Stuart Beckett said: "It is a tough one to start with but there won't be any easy games. They are all going to be difficult games, they are all going to be a test.
"It's a tough opener but we have got to play them all at some point. We have the bones of a decent squad and we expect another three lads to sign before the Sheringham game. We also have some really good young lads in and around the squad.
"Some of these lads are 16 so you don't really want to throw them in, but they've been performing in training and when they've been asked to play, they don't look out of place.
"Playing for the U18s will be their priority but we will use them where we can and push them on."
Beckett was disappointed his team didn't take something out of a 3-1 friendly defeat at Cambridgeshire County League side Over Sports on Saturday.
He said: "I think it was a missed opportunity. We were on top in the second half and we could have seen it through and won that game. We conceded two early goals through being disorganised and that's not how we have set them up.
"We let them have a good start and that is what we've become renowned for over the last few seasons and what we are trying to stamp out.
"I feel when we got the lads organised though and got into the shape that we should have been in, then we coped with them okay."
Saints are hoping to arrange a final friendly on Tuesday evening.
