Wisbech St Mary will be looking for their first points of the season when they travel to Norwich CBS this weekend
Wisbech St Mary’s improved performances need to be backed up with points sooner rather than later, according to manager Stuart Beckett.
Having not played since September 11 before their 4-0 reverse against Framlingham Town last Saturday, the Saints remain rooted to the bottom of the Thurlow Nunn First Division North standings.
Despite his side remaining pointless, Beckett doesn’t think the standard they are setting is too far away.
“We did expect Framlingham to be fairly good based on what we’ve seen and what we’ve heard of them,” he told The Citizen.
“We were better than we have been, and I think as much as we probably deserved to lose I think 4-0 was a little harsh.
“We at least deserved one or two for our efforts. It was a much better performance, a much more positive performance.
“We’re looking forward to the rest of the season, really. Just breaking it down from now until Christmas.
“There were certainly a lot more positives from that performance than there have been from the last two or three.
“There were more to take from certainly the Great Yarmouth game and the one before that as well.”
The Saints are now set to travel to Norwich CBS this Saturday as their search for a first point continues, and Beckett is looking forward to the challenge.
“That’ll be another good test,” he said.
“They’re doing really well in the league, so it’s a challenge but one that we’re looking forward to – especially after a better performance at the weekend.
“It’s the sort of one that makes you feel a lot better.”
However, he accepts that his side do need to translate these performances into wins before it is too late.
“That’s always the aim,” he said.
“Performances are nice, but points are what we need at the end of the day. We can’t go along much longer with no points.
“Points are what we want, but first of all we need to get the performances right.
“Like I said, we weren’t too far away at the weekend.
“A 4-0 defeat looks bad on paper, but in reality I don’t know how far off we actually were.”
