Marshland Saints the big weekend winners across Fenland with cup cruise against Hockering
Marshland Saints were the big winners at the weekend as they cruised into the next round of the Norfolk Junior Cup.
The Anglian Combination Division Three North outfit showed no mercy against Hockering with a 12-1 victory.
Dave Abbott and Kieran Bruce both bagged four-goal returns with Eddie McGahren (2), Charlie Dungey and Samuel Gowler completing the scoring spree.
Saints will now face Weeting Saxon in the next round.
The management team of Jake Gowler and Jay Gomez said: "The better team won on the day, we were completely unplayable in the first half.
"Full credit to Hockering for coming over with the bare 11, however, we still had a job to do and nonetheless we got it done emphatically.
"After some fantastic team goals mixed with some unbelievable finishes, it was always going to make it hard to choose Man of the Match but Dave Abbott scoring four in the first half saw him take it. We look forward to the next round away to Weeting.
"The team are showing real unity with a perfect balance of youth and experience, and there are good things to come this season."
Wisbech St Mary exited the Cambs County League Premier Knockout Cup with a narrow 1-0 reverse at home to league leaders Newmarket Town Reserves, who ended the tie with ten men.
Wimblington progressed to the next stage of the William Cockell Memorial Cup with a 2-0 victory over Orwell, where Sebastian Goldspink and Billy Munns found the back of the net.
Leaders Outwell Swifts maintained their lead at the top of 1B with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Alconbury.
Adan-Jay Lewis notched his sixth goal of the campaign with Brandon Carpenter grabbing the other.
Goalkeeper Shae Waters made sure of the three points for Swifts with a brilliant penalty save.
March Town United A bounced back to winning ways with a 4-2 triumph over Witchford 96 Reserves with substitute Reece Thompson scoring a brace and Luca Middleton and Oliver Belton registering the others.
In 2B, Wisbech St Mary Reserves won 4-1 at Papworth while Manea United, who had Ben McDermott sent-off, lost 2-0 at league leaders Littleport Town.
Wisbech St Mary Development A were 6-2 winners at Hartford Rangers Reserves in 3B.
In the same division, George Rayner helped himself to a hat-trick as Mepal and Sutton trounced Swavesey Institute Reserves 5-0 with Ryan Frear and Kai Thrower netting the others.
There were plenty of goals in 4C with league leaders AEK United leading the way with a 4-0 victory over Wimblington Reserves.
Dan Hempson added another two goals to his tally for the season with Sean Jacka and Wozza Jolly clinching the victory in a great display of togetherness.
Hempson now has 17 goals for the season for AEK, who have now registered seven successive wins to move seven points clear at the top.
Wisbech St Mary B are the nearest pursuers following a 7-0 home win against Outwell Swifts Reserves.
March Academy sit third after Jack Conyard (2), Daniel Williams (2), Paul Primmer and Josh Ward were all on target in a 6-4 win over Brampton and Buckden Reserves.
Manea United Reserves had Liam Birch on target during a 6-1 home loss to Mepal and Sutton Reserves, who replied through a Daniel Challis treble, Harvey Miller brace and a goal for Joshua Woolman.
In the GCE Hire Fleet Peterborough & District Football League, Leverington Sports suffered a third successive defeat with a 3-1 reverse at Whittlesey Athletic Reserves.
Alan Burch was on the scoresheet for Sports, who were made to pay for several missed chances.
