Wisbech St Mary A through to Third Round of Haigh and Peck Cup after penalty shoot-out win over Alconbury Weston.




In our featured match this week, Wisbech St Mary A battled through to the Third Round of the Reg Haigh and Arthur Peck Cup with a penalty shoot-out win over Alconbury Weston.

Both sides are riding high in Division 4B of the Cambs County League this season, having suffered just one defeat each, so a tight game was expected and delivered. The scores were 2-2 after normal time, with goals from Josh Williams and Tom Chilton Jnr, with Saints winning the shoot-out 6-5.

4B outfit Upwell Town are also through after an emphatic 9-1 win at 4A strugglers Tempsford, with former Wisbech Town player Dan Hempson scoring an incredible eight goals and one from Ben Crowson.

Outwell Swifts Reserves bow out though, beaten 4-0 at home to Stretham Reserves, and Wisbech Town Acornslost 4-7 at home to fellow 4B side Willingham Wolves, Derren Singleton scoring all four for Acorns.

In the Second Round of the Creake Charity Shield, March Town A were beaten 8-2 at Needingworth United, Shane Knight netting twice, and Chatteris Town Reserves lost 3-0 at Stretham in two all-1B affairs.

Wisbech St Mary Reserves are through to Round Three of the William Coad League Cup after a walkover win against Papworth, but 2B side Manea United lost 6-2 at home to 2A side Comberton United Reserves, Theo Willis and Josh Brittin netting for United.

Doddington Three Lions are through to the Third Round of the John Ablett Cup after a 6-1 win at Thaxted Rangers Reserves, JoeWaters with a hat-trick, Josh ingram a brace and one for Sam Smethurst.

In the Premier Division, Wisbech St Mary went down 3-0 at Ely City Reserves, but March Town Reserves lead Senior B after a 5-0 victory at Abington United.

March were on the front foot from the off and Harry Powley hit the outside of a post before Reece Thompson slotted home from eight yards out. Blake Cowley found Sam Bedwell to slot home the second from close range and that’s the way it stayed until half time.

After the break, Thompson chased a long ball and finished in the bottom corner for 3-0 and then substitute Seb Goldspink scored a great header from a Powley cross to make it four. Powley then assisted Thompson for his hat-trick.

There was a heavy defeat for Benwick Athletic (Christchurch) in 1B, beaten 7-2 at Hemingfords United Reserves, Alan Setch and Dayne Moore scoring, but in 2B, unbeaten Outwell Swifts continue their promotion push with a 4-0 win at Houghton & Wyton, Jack Brand, Daniel Cowell, Brandon Hedge and Adan-Jay Lewis all scoring.

There was a great result for Chatteris Town A, with a 3-2 home win against high-flying Pymoor in 4B. The Lilies were 2-0 down early on but fought back to win with goals from Dean Joyce (2) and Keith Webb, with Joe Carman named man of the match.

Leverington Sports laid down an emphatic marker that they are title challengers when they beat league leaders and reigning champions Uppingham Town 4-1 at home in the Peterborough League Premier Division. Kieran Hamilton, Aaron McKenna, Callum Young and sub Louie Garner got the goals, with Dan Palmer man of the match.

There was also a great result for Tydd, a first half goal from Jack Dicker seeing them beat Whittlesey Athletic Reserves 1-0 to climb off the bottom of the table with games in hand over those around them.

In Division One, Chatteris Town are up to fourth after a 3-2 derby win at ninth place Long Sutton Athletic, man of the match Alfie Richardson, Martin Saunders and Jack McLoughlin getting the Lilies goals and Calvin Bird scoring twice for the Magpies. Wisbech Town Reserves are firmly in a relegation fight after a 10-2 thrashing at FC Peterborough Reserves, Claudiu Simon netting for the Fenmen.

Sutton Bridge United won the Division Two derby clash 6-2 against Leverington Sports Reserves, with Matt Eaton grabbing a hat-trick and Alex Clements-Limb, Robert Hook and Kurt Scott also netting.

Long Sutton Athletic Reserves were beaten 7-1 at Ramsey Town Reserves in Division Three, Jack Baker netting their only goal, and, in Division Four, Leverington Sports A triumphed 3-2 at Stamford Lions Reserves, Grady Goode, Swaley Stokes and Tyler Stokes on target.

Tydd Reserves drew 1-1 at Crowland Town Reserves in the First Round of the Spalding Inter-Services Cup.

Marshland Saints made it seven wins from 10 in Division Five North of the Anglian Combination when they beat North Walsham Town Reserves 7-2, Callum Roger (2), Lewis Connor, Dave Abbott, Eddie Mcgahren, Charlie Dungey and Keiran Brown on target, but their reserves were beaten 5-1 at West Winch William Burt in Division Two of the North West Norfolk League, Dylan Rust scoring.
