Sanders hat-trick sees 10-men Wisbech Town win, while March Town draw at leaders and Parson Drove victorious away from home
A hat-trick from Charley Sanders helped Wisbech Town take all three points and complete a double this afternoon, while there was also an impressive point on the road for March Town and a great away win for Parson Drove.
Thirteenth placed Wisbech beat struggling Heather St John 4-2 in the United Counties League Premier Division North, despite having Amir Ward sent off early in the second half.
James Harrison gave the second-from-bottom visitors a ninth minute lead at Fountain Fresh Park, but striker Sanders – a free agent for the day before transferring from Bedford Town to Corny Town –equalised six minute later, Cenk Acar made it 2-1 on 34 minutes and that's the way it stayed to half time.
Ward was red carded seven minutes after the break but after 62 minute Sanders made it 3-1. Back came the visitors through Jack Coles 11 minutes from time, but Sanders wrapped up the points with his third goal two minutes later.
Next Saturday the Fenmen entertain leaders Loughborough Students.
On Wednesday evening, an under strength Fenmen lost 6-1 at Cambridge City in the semi-final of the Cambs Invitation Cup, Sisa Tuntulwana scoring. March had exited the competition the previous evening, losing 1-0 at home to Cambridge United Development.
But today, the eighth placed Hares enjoyed a great result, drawing 2-2 at United Counties League Premier Division South leaders Rugby Town. The title favourites took a 42nd minute lead through captain Loyiso Recci's bullet header, but March skipper Danny Emmington curled in a brilliant free kick via the underside of the crossbar from 25 yards to equalise five minutes after the break with his seventh of the season.
Jack Friend put the visitors in front on the hour, following up on Matt Hill's save to notch his 18th of the campaign, before Edwin Ahenkorah equalised with a deflected effort five minutes later.
March travel to play FA Vase holders Newport Pagnell Town on Tuesday night before a trip to bottom side Long Buckby next Saturday.
A fourth win in six games further eased Parson Drove's relegation fears as they triumphed 3-0 at second-from-bottom Leiston Reserves in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North. Drove, who scored twice before the break through Danny Setchell and Tudusa before Setchell netted a second half penalty, are now three points clear of the drop zone with games in hand on all the teams around them.
They entertain ninth placed Huntingdon Town on Tuesday evening before travelling to play 13th placed Needham Market U23s next Saturday.
