AFC Walpole and Parson Drove Reserves to meet in cup final




Few matches managed to beat Storm Dennis this afternoon but the North Cambs Junior Cup semi-finals both went ahead, with AFC Walpole and Parson Drove Reserves getting through to the final.

Cambs League division 2B leaders Walpole thumped 3B outfit Benwick Athletic 5-0 at the Thomas Clarkson Community College in Wisbech. After six weeks out, Will Ketteringham scored first for the Honey Badgers with a terrific finish from the edge of the box.

Georgey Buck made it two with a fantastic 30-yard volley and Lewis Clayton bent in the third. Ketteringham tapped home his second and Conor Bird completed the scoring. Man of the match was Luke Whyatt.

And a strong Peterborough League division three Drove Reserves beat division one outfit Whittlesey Athletic Reserves 3-1, with goals from Dan Hempson (2) and Dan Short.

In the Cambridgeshire Junior Challenge Cup, Outwell Swifts of division 2B had a great 2-1 penalty win at division 2A high fliers Great Shelford Reserves, after a 1-1 draw. Swifts had taken the lead after Luke Plumb and Jack Brand combined to set up Aaron McKenna.

It's now nine defeats out of nine away from home for second from bottom side Chatteris Town as they crashed 7-0 at 11th place Linton Granta in the Cambrigeshire County League Kershaw premier division this afternoon.

In division 2B, fourth place March Town United A triumphed 2-0 at third placed Wimblington, under the watchful eye of first team manager Arran Duke. Jordan Buckingham and Eduard Sacovich scored for The Hares.

Guyhirn stay top of division 3B after a 3-0 success at St Ives Rangers Reserves with Kieran Bates netting twice and James Abbott getting the other. But sixth placed Manea went down 3-1 at third placed The Eagle (Ely).

In division 4C March Academy Reserves stay second bottom after a 6-3 beating at mid-table Littleport Town.

In the Peterborough Senior Cup semi-final, Long Sutton Athletic lost 3-1 at fellow premier league side Netherton United, with Jacke Clitheroe on target for The Magpies. On Wednesday evening, the premier league title favourites won again, 4-1 at Parson Drove Reserves in the last 16 of the Peterborough League Cup, Ajay Jolly netting for Drove.

  • Wisbech Town's home game against Frickley Athletic was postponed because of their current ground problems and March Town's trip to Haverhill Borough and Wisbech St Mary's game at Great Yarmouth Town were victims of Storm Dennis.
