Lake District route is 14-mile loop around Coniston Water




The Coniston 14 is probably the most beautiful road race in Britain, each year attracting 1,600 runners.

The race is organised by an enthusiastic committee of volunteers from the Lake District village.

Starting and finishing at the John Ruskin School 18 Fenland RC runners took on this challenging undulating course on Saturday. The route is a 14-mile loop around Coniston Water.

1st Fenland home was Nigel Seale in an amazing time of 1:38:41 and leading the way for a string of personal best times (PB) by 3 mins 28 secs, whilst wife Judy finished in a time of 2:27:31 smashing her PB by 4 mins 07 secs.

Other PBs included Richard Agger in a time of 1:43:27 and a 3-min PB, Larissa Follen 2:09:24 -2 min PB, Carly Read 2:27:15 -4 min 23 sec PB, and Hannah Ryan in a time of 2:27:20 with a 4-min PB.

Jay Gilbert was 1st Fenland lady in a fabulous time of 1:53:40 and perfectly on track for a ‘great’ run in the Great Welsh Marathon on Sunday, April 14. Ian Milburn had a strong run winning 3rd place in his MV70+ category.

First timers to the event were Ellen Connolly, Gemma Read and Carol Slater-Garner with this being Carol’s longest run to date.

• Back in Peterborough on Saturday afternoon, six brave members of FRC decided to take on the Inflatable 5k Zombie Survival Run at the East of England Showground.

Led by the courageous Tony Foice-Beard; he was joined by Sam Bell, Julie Peeling, Kelly Carter, Carrie Ann Caseley, Grahame Peacock and Sam’s son, Josh Bell.

Overcoming multiple inflatable obstacles and battling numerous infected zones, the intrepid group made their way around the 5k course.

Unfortunately upon reaching the final obstacle before the safe extraction point, the group were overrun by zombies and all became infected!
