Three Counties Running Club member conquers Thames Path 100k Ultra Marathon in London
Three Counties Running Club member Simon Killen took on the Thames Path 100k Ultra Marathon.
The 62.1 miles is a beautiful route, starting at Bishop's Park, London, and following the riverside to Henley.
Killen said the route was very hard-going, as it was a mixture of dirt tracks, grass and gravel.
The weather was ideal for the runners with it being very dry and mild with a little wind.
Somehow, Killen managed to miss a couple of turnings at the bridge-crossings which cost him a sub-nine-hour finish which he was hoping to achieve.
Despite this, he recorded a fantastic PB time of 9:07:13 and third place overall out of 600 participants.
The pain of three destroyed toenails was well worth all the effort.
Last weekend saw members take part in the first Skylark 5k, 10k and family fun run.
The event was held at the Skylark Garden Centre in Manea.
This was a brand new timed, multi-terrain, off-road running event around the beautiful fishing lakes in the heart of the Fens.
The first home for the club was Melvin Green in a time of 1:02:28, followed by Rachael Elliot 1:11:02 and Sophie Kirtley 1:17:41.
