Leverington Sports enjoy cup derby triumph at Wisbech St Mary




Peterborough Premier side Leverington Sports took the derby spoils with a 3-2 cup win at Cambs County Premier outfit Wisbech St Mary 3-2.

The Cliff Bullen Challenge Cup game was the Saints’ first on their new 3G pitch, but after 33 minutes they were 1-0 down and reduced to ten men when keeper Alex Street was sent off while conceding a penalty which Rob Conyard converted.

The home side equalised through Keenan Hall on the stroke of half-time to see honours even at the break.

Four minutes after the break Sports made it 2-1 when Kieran Hamilton scored from a free kick outside the box, but Jake Gadsden levelled again for St Mary on the hour.

Leverington’s Joe Mummery then saw red in the 62nd minute for a second booking, but Conyard scored his second of the match five minutes later to wrap up the win.

In the Cambs Junior Cup, Cambs County 1B side Outwell Swifts won 5-0 at Peterborough League Division Two outfit Thorney, with Ross Beart, an Adan-Jay Lewis hat-trick and Ben Garner doing the damage.

Fellow 1B outfit March Town A are also through after a 3-2 home win over Soham Town Rangers Development of 2B. Micah-Joe Baxter, Helgi Danielsson and sub Carlos Menses scored for The Hares.

Peterborough Division One side Wisbech Town Reserves are out though after a 3-2 home defeat to Cambs County 1A team Gamlingay United, Harry Ashby and sub Maxwell Walencik netting for The Fenmen.

March Town Reserves triumphed 8-2 at Bassingbourn in Cambs County Senior A. Josh Bryant grabbed a hat-trick for The Hares, Connor Bancans and Jordon Smith both netted braces and Daniel Granger was also on target.

March had been in poor form in recent weeks so manager Kieran Daplyn was delighted with this performance, saying: “We gave everything. We were on the front foot from the first minute to the last.”

In 1B, Chatteris Town Reserves went down 3-0 at Eynesbury Rovers Reserves and Benwick Athletic (Christchurch) secured a 1-1 draw at Alconbury, Jason Harrison scoring.

Wisbech St Mary Development A stay top of the 3B table after a 1-0 win at AFC Ely and Wisbech St Mary B are up to second in 4B following a 3-1 victory at Brampton and Buckden Reserves.

March Academy went down 6-2 at Needingworth United Reserves, Joshua Kirby and Oliver Semys scoring, while Wisbech Town Acorns won 2-0 at Wimblington Reserves, Derren Singleton and Richard Tarcsai on target. Manea United Reserves beat Outwell Swifts Reserves 3-0, sub Theodore Willis bagging a brace and Matthew Kent also scoring.

In Division One of the Peterborough League, Long Sutton Athletic were thrashed 9-1 at leaders Stamford Belvedere.

Tydd drew 2-2 at Crowland Town Reserves in Division Two, both goals coming from Marley Hamilton, while Leverington Sports Reserves lost 2-0 at home to Stamford Lions.

Long Sutton Athletic Reserves lost 3-0 at home to Ramsey Town Reserves in Division Three and Leverington Sports A were beaten 7-2 by visitors Stamford AFC Reserves, Viadislav Dimintrov and sub Nedas Surkys scoring for the home team.

Marshland Saints drew 4-4 at KLSC in Anglian Combination Three North and their reserves lost 5-0 at home to Dersingham Rovers A in Division One of the North West Norfolk League.
