Wisbech fighter Joe Steed steps up in weight and rounds – and wins again
There was a night of firsts for Wisbech boxer Joe Steed on Friday as he fought at middleweight and over six rounds, but the end result was the same – victory.
Steed, whose previous fights were over four rounds at super welterweight, faced veteran of 66 fights Konstantin Aleksandrov at The Halls in Norwich and from the opening bell he was on the front foot as he dominated all six rounds and won comfortably on points.
After making it nine professional wins out of nine, Steed said: "I went through the gears and would have been happy to have got him out of there but a win is a win.
"He was a strong fella which I expected but given a couple more rounds he would have been out of there. I think that some others wouldn't have been able to have taken them.
"I worked behind the jab from round one and got the job done and I shall be back in the gym on Monday. I would like one, maybe two more, six rounders against better opposition. They keep saying I'm taking a step up but I just keep winning."
