Striker Jack Friend re-signs for March Town
Ace striker Jack Friend is back with March Town after a brief spell at Ely City.
Friend left the Hares to join the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division Robins in pre-season and has scored 10 goals in 18 games for them.
Friend was top scorer in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League First Division North in the 2018/19 season, netting 32 goals in 37 games for Wisbech St Mary and then March.
The following season he top-scored again, with 35 goals from 40 games before Covid curtailed the season. The 2020/21 season saw him score 11 in 12 games before the pandemic again shortened the campaign.
The 2021/22 season was his only full campaign for the Hares and saw him net 27 times in 38 Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division games for newly-promoted March, finishing second top scorer.
Last season saw March transfer over to the United Counties League Premier Division South, where he bagged 22 goals from 38 games.
His signing will be a huge boost for the Hares, with Josh Moreman having been out injured for some time and fellow striker Craig Gillies having played several games in defence because of other injuries.
March were leapfrogged into first place by Wellingborough Town on Tuesday night after losing 4-2 at the home of the Doughboys. The visitors found themselves 3-0 down after an hour but two goals in a minute from Gillies and Matty Foy gave them hope before Wellingborough sealed the win with seven minutes remaining.
On Saturday March entertain GNG Oadby Town.
