Outwell Swifts through to semi-finals of North Cambs Junior Cup after shoot-out win over Wisbech St Mary Reserves

Two promotion chasers from Division 2B of the Cambs County League clashed when Outwell Swifts entertained Wisbech St Mary Reserves in the North Cambs Junior Cup – and it was the home side who battled through to the semi-finals.

Swifts won 4-2 on penalty kicks after the game ended 1-1. Saints were leading 1-0 through Jamie Leet and Swifts were down to 10 men with 30 minutes remaining, after the sending off of Daniel Cowell, but new signing Ben Garner came off the bench to equalise.

In the other tie played on Saturday, March Academy of Cambs County 4B were beaten 2-1 at home by Leverington Sports Reserves of the Peterborough League Division Two, sub Toby Conyard scoring for Academy in the second half after Samuel Fabela and Marley Woods had put Sports 2-0 up within 16 minutes.

In the Cambs Junior Cup quarter-final, Chatteris Town Reserves lost 4-1 at home to Comberton United Reserves, Alfie Holloway scoring for the first time this season.

Wisbech St Mary A thrashed Upwell Town 5-0 in the quarter-final of the Reg Haigh & Arthur Peck Cup, Billy Barnes netting twice to make it six for the campaign and Josh Williams, Grant Rider and Tom Chilton Snr also on target.

March Town Reserves remain top of Senior B but they suffered their second defeat of the season, 2-1 at Linton Granta. The Hares fell behind after 10 minutes but forced a flurry of corners before the home side were reduced to ten men midway through the first half.

The visitors then pinned Linton in but Harry Powley twice and Liam Monaghan missed good chances to equalise. After the break, March were poor and Linton scored a deserved second from a free kick.

Seb Goldspink got one back from an 88th-minute penalty but the defeat was deserved, with manager Kieran Daplyn saying: “Linton are a strong outfit who dropped from the Premier to Senior B. They are well drilled and organised and I have no complaints.”

They was also defeat for Wimblington, 1-0 at fellow promotion chasers West Wratting Reserves.

In 1B, mid-table Benwick Athletic (Christchurch) enjoyed a 3-0 win at lowly Exning United, Dayne Moore netting twice to make it eight for the season and Dillon Stevens also on target with his seventh.

Struggling March Town A went down 4-2 at high-flying Hartford Rangers in 1B, Shane Knight netting twice to make it nine for him this season in as many games. And it was a poor Saturday for Manea United, with their first team thrashed 9-1 at home against Wicken Wicken Amateurs in 2B and their reserves losing 15-1 at Alconbury Weston in 4B. Robbie Ryan netted for the first team and Theo Willis for the reserves.

Chatteris Town A were beaten 7-1 at home to Hartford Rangers Reserves in 4B, Callum Wilkinson scoring his first of the season. In a bottom-three battle, Wisbech Town Acorns beat Outwell Swifts Reserves 4-0, Derren Singleton grabbing a hat-trick to make it 13 this season and Richard Tarcsai also netting.

Leverington Sports are back in the Peterborough League Premier Division title race after a 5-2 derby victory at Tydd put the home side back in the relegation places. Leverington were deservedly 3-1 ahead at the break but Tydd came back in the second half and took the game to them.

Kieran Hamilton scored twice for Sports to make it 25 for the season, Dale Palmer netted on his birthday and Jake Ogden and Daniel Palmer were also on target. Kelton Stringer (penalty) and Marcio Martins netted for Tydd in a good game, played in the right way, with no cards.

In Division One, Wisbech Town Reserves are firmly in a relegation fight after a 5-0 home drubbing against Farcet United, while Long Sutton Athletic suffered a 4-3 defeat at Wittering Premiair Reserves, Jamal Nyang scoring his seventh of the campaign and Arron Pike and Keegan Thorpe also netting.

Sutton Bridge United triumphed 3-2 at Kings Cliffe in Division Three, Alex Clements-Limb scoring his ninth of the season and Jordan Collison and Kurt Scott also on target. Tydd Reserves were thrashed 9-0 at promotion challengers Whaplode Drove Rovers.

Long Sutton Athletic Reserves lost 2-0 at home to Ramsey Town Reserves in Division Three.
