Wisbech swimmer Lucy Ryan wins national and world medals

Wisbech swimmer Lucy Ryan brought back three gold and two silver medals from the Masters and Senior National Short Course Championships in Sheffield.

Competing in 10 races across three days, she was crowned National Champion in the 200m breaststroke (45-49yrs), and enjoyed being part of a gold winning team with her Team Anglia colleagues in both the freestyle and medley relay teams (combined age 200 years+).

Two swims were Eastern Region records; the 50m breaststroke and 200 individual medley.

Lucy said: "I was really happy with my stroke in the 200 breaststroke. I was able to keep it long and strong all the way to the final stroke. My weekend highlights were massive personal best times in my 50m freestyle, 50 breaststroke and 200 IM, and I always love swimming relays with my fantastic team mates. I love how swimming brings people together to support and encourage each other, even while we strive to be the best we can and win medals and achieve personal bests."

In August in South Korea, Gwangju, she won three bronze medals in the breaststroke events at the World Masters Championships, and achieved PB times in two events.

Of the experience she said "It was incredible to travel to South Korea, a country I probably never would have gone to otherwise. It was an amazing mix of traditions of respect, order and heritage, combined with cutting edge technology - I had my coffee made by a robot and experienced virtual reality zip wiring. The racing facilities were incredible and being able to win all 3 medals for Great Britain across all 3 Breaststroke events was fantastic to be part of. British swimming, especially breaststroke, is admired worldwide. We were swimming in the same pool as Adam Peaty had smashed the world record the week before and staying in the same athletes village. "

Lucy shares her love of swimming through running a swim school from her pool in Emneth; Grange Farm Swim School.
