Last week saw the start of Wisbech Tennis Club’s multi-sport summer camps for ages 5-13 years.

Played in glorious sunshine, youngsters took part in a variety of games, tennis skills and multi-sport activities, the last session being held on Thursday.

Shown are Thursday’s group run by Gary Fitzjohn (centre), assisted by Harry Goldspink and Jacqui West.

Junior club nights for members started yesterday (Tuesday), and are from 4.30pm-5.30pm.

New members are welcome and junior membership will be £15 until the end of March 2020.

It’s been a busy week for matches with the ladies ‘A’ starting the week with a 5-3 win in the Hunts and Peterborough League against the City of Peterborough ‘C’.

On a very warm evening two members of the team – Ebbi Brooks and Nicky Giddens – played very well in their first match in this league. The other team members were team manager Wendy Cropp, and Jacqui West.

Wisbech TC men’s ‘A’ team of Gary Fitzjohn, Julian Brooks, Simon Hester, and Andy Lister lost away to a strong Ramsey team 2-6 in the HP League.

In the mixed ‘A’ HP League there was a very close battle between the teams who were first and second in the division. It finished in an honourable draw, 4-4.

Wisbech have a game in hand so could still take the title, but will have to wait for the final match of the season, which took place yesterday.

Team: Wendy Cropp, Gary Fitzjohn, Genia Giles, and Ryan Daly.

Our Mixed ‘B’ team of Roger Frusher, Jan Wildman, Jean Brennan, and Jay Cooper, played Terrington ‘B’ at home in the North West Norfolk league and won 5-3. Jay and Jean won all their sets and Roger and Jan made the difference between a draw and a win.

The Ladies ‘A’ team played in the (NWN) league against KES ‘A’ and lost 5-3. Some very close sets including a tie break, but in the end KES were too strong. Many thanks to Janet Bouch who stepped in earlier in the day after a team member was taken ill. Team: Wendy Cropp, Jacqui West, Lucy Prior and Janet Bouch.
