Wisbech Town coach insists there is ‘no hiding place’ for the club’s players as side still search for first league win

Wisbech Town coach Ross McNeil says there is no hiding place for his players going into two crucial home games in the space of a few days.

The Fenmen welcome Sleaford to Fountain Fresh Park on Tuesday night before entertaining Gresley Rovers on Saturday.

They are still searching for their first league win of the season in the UCL Premier Division North following a 3-0 defeat at Eastwood CFC at the weekend.

McNeil refused to put the club's poor start down to a large turnover of players, saying: "So many people have played in so many different positions, which has contributed to where we are now and we need a bit of help, make no bones about it.

"Stacey (Freeman) has come in and done well and Lakes (Will Lakin) has come in and done well but it is the same outcome again.

"There's no hiding place for anyone at the moment but we will get it right.

"There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes but we're a little behind others in terms of where they are and where we are and we've just got to catch up.

"I thought there were positives today. Elliott Foster was brilliant, he's on the move all of the time, works hard, is good on the ball and is a great lad to coach.

"We've got to keep being positive and keep buying into what the manager is saying and what we're trying to do as a group and things will change."

After a goalless first half, the deadlock was broken in the opening minute of the second half and, as so often this season, Luke Hipwell's side conceded further goals in quick succession as the hosts made it 2-0 in the 57th minute and added a third six minutes later.

"We had a game plan and did well in the first half," said McNeil.

"We went into half-time and regrouped but then conceded three really poor goals.

"The first came from a long throw which was avoidable, the second from a free-kick and a free header and the third we didn't work hard enough.

"Don't get me wrong, they are a really good team with really good players but we are very disappointed with the goals we've conceded."

Wisbech Town: Lakin, Wilson, Balding, Braham, Mattless (Zaluzinskis), Freeman, Williams, Harris, Foster, Allen (Cavozzi), Ward (Foster).
