Edge at the double as Wisbech beat Fakenham
Wisbech Town 2, Fakenham Town 0
Two goals from Dylan Edge saw Wisbech Town beat lower league opponents Fakenham Town in a friendly fixture at the Fenland Stadium this afternoon (Saturday).
In searing heat, Step 4 Fenmen started on the front foot against Step 5 Ghosts, before fading as the first half progressed.
However, Brett Whaley's men had the better of the second half and, looking fitter against a side playing their opening pre-season game, took control after making substitutions.
Sub Andre Williams twice set up hard working striker Edge for goals as Wisbech made it three pre-season wins out of three. And Ollie Williams, who was at King's Lynn Town Reserves last season, also impressed.
Edge tested the visiting keeper twice in the first half, Aaron Hart also saw an effort saved and Eoin McQuaid had a shot deflected over, while only a fantastic tackle from central defender Jack Keeble denied Fakenham at the other end.
Home keeper Charlie Congreve made a great save to keep out a 54th minute Ghosts free kick and at the other end sub Danny Draper set up Edge only for his 59th minute shot to be cleared off the line.
Wisbech took the lead in the 64th minute when sub Andre Williams was released down the right and with his first taste of action crossed a perfect ball for Edge to tap home.
Two minutes later, the impressive Williams shot over when he should have hit the target, but in the 70th minute his through ball found Edge, who scored on the rebound after his initial shot was saved.
Midfielder Sam Murphy went close with a header and a great Hart cross saw Edge denied again by the impressive Fakenham keeper as the Fenmen settled for two goals.
