Third win on the trot for Whittlesey Athletic

Whittlesey Athletic end the year outside the Thurlow Nunn First Division North relegation places after victory at home this afternoon.

Athletic were the only Fenland side in action this Saturday and were pinned back from the lead twice against mid-table Pinchbeck United before eventually winning 3-2 at the Danzen Logistics Stadium.

Kieran Hibbins gave Whittlesey the ideal start with his third goal in five games this season after just four minutes. But The Knights hit back through Flynn Slater eighth of the campaign after 23 minutes before Jack Carter made the half-time score 2-1 from the penalty spot, his fifth so far in seven games.

The visitors equalised again after 63 minutes, Slater scoring his second, but Ollie Gale secured all three points for the home side with his second of the season, in his fifth game. Man of the match for Whittlesey was Jack Bates.

The victory was Athletic’s third home win on the bounce and leaves them six points clear of Haverhill Borough in the final relegation spot, having played one game more.

Their next game sees them take on eighth-place Gorleston Reserves away next Saturday, with ninth-place Parson Drove entertaining 14th-place AFC Sudbury Reserves.
