Wisbech Town joint bosses Mark Warren and Arran Duke excited for rest of Northern Premier League Midlands Division season
Wisbech Town will be focusing on picking up as many points as possible rather than battling relegation, says new joint-manager Mark Warren.
Warren and Arran Duke have been handed the reigns until the end of the season, with the Fenmen currently languishing third-from-bottom in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division
table.
Following Brett Whaley's departure to Spalding United, Wisbech have begun to implement a more progressive style of football - and Warren is confident that will pay off in the coming months.
"We haven’t changed too much in regards to personnel, but what we’ve tried to implement is a different formation and more free-flowing football," he said.
"I think the boys have taken to that and they’re adapting to it. We’ve only had one training session and two games, so there’s a lot of work to do.
"The squad we’ve got are more than capable of pulling themselves away from where we are."
The Fenmen went down to a 2-0 loss against Carlton Town at the weekend, and things won't be any easier this Saturday when they host eighth-placed Bedworth Town.
However, Warren says these tricky fixtures are only to be expected.
"It sounds a bit cliche, but every game is a tough game for us at the moment.
"When you find yourself down there in the position we’re in, every game is like a cup final and the boys have got to treat it like that.
"We know it’s going to be a tough game, but a game we’re going to prepare for this week and I’m sure the boys will be up for it.
"We’re going to play with no fear, and we’re just going to concentrate on ourselves and our own game plan."
Warren added that he is glad to be back in the game, and is looking forward to a challenging end to the campaign.
"I’ve got to be honest - I did take a step back from football, but given this opportunity and the position we’re in I see it as a challenge for myself and Arran as well," he said.
"We have got a big challenge ahead. There’s no hiding away from that, so it’s going to be hard work between now and the end of the season.
"Our aim is to pick up as many points as possible. Despite where we are in the league at the moment, we just want to focus on us and take each game as it comes.
"It’s an opportunity we're looking to relish."
