Three Counties Running Club members in action at Boston and Manchester marathons

The weekend before the iconic London Marathon saw a Three Counties Running club duo take on two entirely different events.

Simon Killen tackled the Manchester Marathon. The weather was great, mild and dry with a light breeze and was ideal for running.

He passed a number of famous city landmarks, including Manchester United’s Old Trafford football ground, with the course working its way through Chorlton, Hulme, Old Trafford, Stretford, Sale, Timperley, Altrincham, Urmston, Salford, and the city centre before finishing at the cricket ground.

A fantastic field of 28,000 runners took part, and Simon had a fantastic run - finishing with a great time of 2:54:28, which was a PB by four minutes.

Elsewhere in Boston, Lincolnshire, TCRC runner Alice Ingman took part in the Boston Marathon – her third marathon in a year.

She ran the race with her friend Carolyn Thompson-Easter, who last year had run the marathon in Boston in the USA.

The weather was very comfortable for the first few hours, but the sun broke out aftter around ten miles.

At that stage Alice started to struggle with a knee injury which hampered her running for the rest of the race. Several club members were there to support her which was a great boost.

Despite her injury, Alice still managed to finish the race in a time of 6:13:07.
