Three Counties athletes in cross-country action at Shouldham

Three Counties Running Club members participated in the fifth race of the Ryston GP cross-country series at the weekend.

The series involves six races that take place from October to March of varying distances.

The six-race series consists of 5km, 6.5km and 9k distances that are raced twice. If a participant takes part in one of each of the different distances they are awarded a lovely race moment.

The races take place in the woods at Shouldham Warren, in an undulating wooded area with well-developed trails.

The runs predominantly stick to the main fire break trails that scatter the warren. Underfoot conditions vary depending on the weather.

In dry conditions some trails can get sandy, in wet conditions certain areas can get particularly muddy.

It was another very fresh but dry start to the day and six Three Counties members lined up on the start line to take part in the 9km race.

First home for the club was James Stace 41:19 (PB), Sarah Johnson 44:29, Les Phillips 47:43, Debbie Agger 55:58, Tracy Adams 55:58 (second in age) and Diane Tyler 1:00:25.

Elsewhere, Sophie Kirtley took part in a 10k race at Skegness.

The 10k race was hosted by a group called Curly Athletes.

They are a collection of athletes, coaches and sports industry experts who feel the world can be a better place through all things swim, bike and run associated.

This event was previously hosted by Skegness Coasters who have taken a step back but still supported the Curly Athletes to get the event underway.

The race is a flat road race through Butlins Caravan Park.

It was a dry day but the wind was bitterly cold in places. Kirtley had a fantastic run finishing in a time of 1:13:13.
