Sandringham Estate plays host to running event for Three Counties members
Sandringham Estate hosted the Run Sandringham event last month - and Three Counties Running Club members made their presence felt.
The event boasted a 5k, half marathon and a community mile race.
It was a blistering hot day for everyone as the 5k race went off at 9am and proceeded to get hotter and hotter. The organisers put on extra water stations due to the severe heat.
Despite the heat there was still a fantastic turnout of runners with 182 in the 5k and 928 in the half marathon.
Many thousands of pounds are raised for good causes in June 2023 and organised by Good Running Events, Run Sandringham is a major event series in the East Anglian running calendar.
With a start and finish within the Royal estate, the event series boasts a super scenic route around the grounds of Sandringham Estate, Her Majesty The Queen’s winter retreat.
All races were on a mixed terrain course of tarmac, woodland track and gravel inclines. The mixed terrain and heat made for a hard course.
Ten Three Counties Running Club Members took part with three in the 5k and seven in the half marathon.
In the 5k race Sarah-Jane Macdonald finished in 34th /182 and first in age in a time of 27:25 followed by Ewa Szczygielska in 33:10 followed by Rachel Cooper in 35:08.
Next to run at 10am were the fabulous Half marathon runners.
By this time the temperature was getting high and even the shade from the trees made the temperature feel like a furnace.
TCRC members ran the half marathon, using it as a long training run as today’s conditions were no day for PB’s.
Times: Naomi Smith 2:34:54, Claire Smithee 2:34:55, Jayne Spurrier 2:35:02, Phillip Cooper 2:50:27, Kim Coultard 2:41:28 and Sarah Johnson 2:41:38.
New member Andrew Harris had a fantastic run, clocking 2:44:14.
It was a fantastic event, lovely course and great support on route for the TCRC members.
