‘Old Skool’ banger racing meeting coming up at King’s Lynn

Fenland’s drivers will be throwing it back to the 1990s at King’s Lynn this Saturday with an “Old Skool” banger meeting.

Two classes are in action, with the larger class being open to Bluebirds, Cavaliers, Primeras and the like – cars which were the staple of 2L Banger racing towards the end of last century.

A smaller class will feature Sunny’s Almeras and similar vehicles, with racing also coming from the 1300 Stock Cars and the Junior Bangers.

A large number of loal drivers are booked in for action, representing in every formula.

Brad Bartram will once again be one of the busiest drivers as he races both of the banger formulas on the day.

Following a slow start to the season, he has recently recaptured the form which saw him voted the Drivers’ Driver of the Yearb in 2022.

An excellent display over Easter, which was backed up by an equally impressive display at the May Day meeting - which saw Bartrum being voted by the fans as Driver of the Day in the 1500cc Banger class – will see him enter Saturday full of confidence.

He will be joined in the larger banger class by world champion Max Stott, Lennie Murkin, Joel Allen and James Licquorice. All four drivers are big names in the world of Banger Racing.

Stott always puts on a first class display at King’s Lynn, Murkin is another highly rated star grade driver, and Joel Allen will be in action on the back of winning the 1500 Banger on May Day.

Licquorice is another in top form, which he will be looking to continue – and he will be in action off the back of a heat win and two entertainer awards that he picked up in the 2L Bangers on May Day.

The smaller class will see Bartram joined by Dan Wright. The pair tend to specialise in these type of meetings nowadays and always put on a great show.

The 1300 Stock Cars will be racing at Lynn following the first regrading of the season. Veteran John Moat is back up to star grade, and he swaps places with son Dean – who moves back to the blues and will be back out in the brand new car which he debuted at Easter.

Sonny Wright moves up to the blues for the first time in his career. Other local drivers in action include Tom Alsop, Shane Moat, Lee Green, Jon Bailey and Barty Ketteringham.

The Junior Bangers complete the action and will see Levi Murkin, Lincoln Douglas, Rhys Parrin, Archie Horwood and Riley Crowson in action.

Douglas will be racing from a career best blue grade, while Horwood will be making his Lynn debut in the formula.
