Nine Fenland Running Club members had to battle rolling Lincolnshire hills, sludgy off-road sections, muddy fields and gusts to race the 13.1 mile course of the Sleaford Half Marathon at RAF Cranwell on Sunday.

First home for FRC was Tim Chapman (pictured) whose swift half of 1.33.02 placed him 82nd in a field of 577.

Other stand-out performances were the steadily improving Justin Showell with 1:39.03 and Tom Richards, running his first-ever half marathon who finished in 1.39.45.

The ladies’ team ran strongly and was led home by Sarah Gauvin in 1.45.06 with Paulina Zub and Leanne Rickett following on comfortably within 10 minutes of Sarah.

l Running at the weekly 5k parkrun event in King’s Lynn, Walpole St Andrew’s Matt Pyatt reduced his best time from 16 minutes and 5 seconds to 16 minutes exactly.

He was also the first of the 207 finishers on the day.
