Wisbech Rugby Club were beaten by Newmarket after fielding an injury-ravaged side
An injury ravaged Wisbech 1st XV were defeated by 66 unanswered points against a strong organised Newmarket side.
The Men in Red were on their travels, and a lack of squad depth on the day contributed to their heavy loss.
Wisbech started poorly and never recovered, with the torrid weather conditions making it difficult to get established in the game.
They were further hampered by the loss of two of their key players to head injuries mid-way through the first half.
Notable mentions go to Raimondas Vinksna, who put in a valiant effort with some positive line breaks, and Tom Goode - who put in a solid performance in the second row.
Club Captain Dave Wadsley commented: "It was a hard day at the office, not helped by some coincidental bad weather and poor availability."
The club put out a thanks to those boys who did make themselves available.
It was a disappointing result for the Men in Red, who had stormed to a 67-10 victory over Norwich Union the previous weekend.
They will hope to return to winning ways when their 1st XV travel to Ipswich YM next week.
They will follow that up by hosting Ely in their final league fixture before the Christmas break.
