Wisbech St Mary tournament a success as teams from likes of March, Chatteris, Spalding and Godmanchester turn out in June 2022
More than 1250 games were played over an excellent weekend at Wisbech St Mary’s annual tournament.
The popular event was held for the first time since before the pandemic, with some thrilling games being overseen by 109 keen referees.
On Saturday, Godmanchester under-7s beat their KLSC Black counterparts to win that age group’s final.
In the under-9 final, Blackstones saw off Saffron Walden to take the crown - while Netherton Reds beat Netherton Blacks to claim the under-11 title.
Newmarket defeated hosts St Mary’s under-13 side in another final, with Haddenham Reds beating Haddenham Blues in the under-11/12s girls showpiece game.
Spalding Blue triumphed over Netherton in the under-13 girls category, and Copmanthorpe did the same against Mawsley in the under-14 girls final.
Come Sunday, the under-8 trophy was clinched by Aylestone when they emerged victorious against Godmanchester.
Boston United beat Heigham Park in the under-10s final, with Whittlesey defeated by Trimley in the under-12 category.
Wisbech St Mary’s under-14s earned a trophy for the hosts when they beat Terrington in their final.
Isleham bettered Milton in the under-15s tournament, while Northern Star Ladies triumphed against their Deeping counterparts.
St Mary chairman Mark Miller was delighted as the tournament returned - with nearly 400 teams taking part over two fun-packed days.
