Wisbech Town up to fourth after home win
Wisbech Town are now fourth in the Cambs & Hunts Premier League Division One after a convincing win on Saturday.
James Williams’ men trail leaders Saffron Walden by 40 points after their 128-run victory at home to Foxton Granta.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Wisbech registered an impressive 279-6 declared from 53 overs, wicket keeper Josh Bowers leading the way with 67 from 87 balls, including eight fours.
Sri Lankan opener Shalin Navishka De Mel chipped in with his usual quickfire innings, hitting 55 from just 32 balls, with seven fours and a six, and captain Williams made 53. Other opener Thomas Hoyle made 43, Danny Haynes 24 not out and Gary Freear 16.
In reply, Granta were bowled out for 151 from 51 overs, Louis Avis taking 4-28 from 12 overs, Josh Porter 3-29 from ten, and Jonny Garner, De Mel and Freear taking a wicket each.
March drop to second in Division Three after a six-wicket defeat at Foxton Granta 2nd.
March batted first with player-coach Mark Estall scoring 59, including five fours and two sixes, Sam Robinson continuing his good form with 51, Ben Pyke 26, Toby Nulty 21 and Callum Young 18 as they reached 222 for 7 off their 45 overs.
In reply, Granta reached 226-4 off only 33.5 overs. Callum Young took 2-24 and Sam Robinson and Kian Pooley took the other two wickets.
Chatteris stay top of Senior Two after a seven-wicket win at Horseheath. The home side elected to bat and made 148-8 from 45 overs, James Wood taking 3-39 from nine, Shimron Thomas 2-12 from nine, Anthony Palmer 2-20 from nine and Anthony Bamford 1-1 from one.
The visitors comfortably reached their victory total, making 151-3 from 31.3 overs, Bamford hitting six fours in his 62 from 78 balls, captain Palmer scoring 31, wicket keeper Charlie Munns 20, Peter Munns 15 not out and Liam Boxall 13 not out.
Bottom side Wisbech 2nd lost by eight wickets at Milton. After being put into bat, the visitors were dismissed for 142 from 35.1 overs, Martin Woolard top scoring with 41, Oliver Overland 30, opener Matthew Gill 26, Archie Grange-Hall 20 and Karthic Sivakumar 12.
Milton then made 145-2 from 28.1 overs, Brodie Ellis and Alfie Jagger the wicket takers.
March 2nd remain top of the Junior Four North after a 24-run home win over Sutton 2nd. After deciding to bat, the home side made an impressive 258-7 from 40 overs, all-rounder Stuart Mills scoring his maiden century for the club with 107 not out, including 16 fours and two sixes.
Alex Oldham made 39, Kammari Suryaprakash 35, Theo Liversedge 25, Dennis Willis 14 and wicket keeper Alun Bradshaw 11.
Sutton fell to 90-6 before number seven batsman Jordan Emms scored a hard-hitting 101 not out as they were bowled out on the last ball of the game for 233.
Willis took 3-32, Mills 2-3 and Mark Deas 2-37, with Matthew Vail, Oliver Ashby and Liversedge taking a wicket each.
In the same division, Wimblington stay second after a four-wicket win at Wisbech 3rd. The home side were put into bat and stumbled to 98 all out from 23 overs, captain Tom Freear top scoring with 49 and opener James Harper making 27.
Francesca Plitsch took 4-29 from eight, Leon Walker 3-40 from eight and Thomas Barker and Poppy Cole taking a wicket each.
In reply, Wimblington reached 99-6 from 19.4 overs, the 28 extras conceded proving damaging for the home side. Matthew Day scored 17, Kyle Butler 15 not out and Robert Kemp 11. Jake Bowering took 2-9, with a wicket each for Chris Whyatt, Oliver Didwell, Finlay Murdoch and Jay Modhvadia.
