Tyler, 13, delivers stunning display

Tyler Thomas, pictured above, delivered a stunning performance in the East Region Championships, held in Norwich, over the three-day bank holiday weekend.

The Chatteris Kingfisher ace took on swimmers from Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire and Essex after qualifying for an incredible 16 events.

Over the three days, he swam to the finals (top-eight fastest swimmers) for 11 of the 16 races (1500m, 400m, 200m, 100m front crawl, 200m butterfly, 200m,100m and 50m backstroke, 400m and 200m IM and 100m breaststroke).

The youngster just missed out on a medal in the 200m and 400m IM, finishing fourth in both.

But he gained silver in the 100m backstroke, bronze in the 200m backstroke and was crowned 50m backstroke champion in his age group.

He was ranked in 12th position in the 50m backstroke and in 14th position in the 100m backstroke nationally for his age group.

If he manages to maintain a top 24 ranking in 100m backstroke he will be selected for National Championships at the end of July.

He swam new long course personal best times in all of his races to help Chatteris Kingfishers to second spot overall, behind Peterborough, but in front of Cambridge in the overall standings.

Coach Andrew Jakeman was extremely proud of Tyler’s hard work and achievements with his three medals really putting the small Chatteris Kingfishers Club firmly on the map.

The club’s Finley Harper was unable to compete at the championship.
