Home defeat for Wisbech 2nds but March 2nds enjoy big win
On another Saturday where many games fell victims to waterlogged pitches, Wisbech 2nds may be forgiven for wishing their game had suffered a similar fate.
Visiting Royston took all 20 points as they beat the hosts by a whopping 109 runs in the Cambs & Hunts Premier League CCA Senior League Division One, leaving them with just the six points.
Asked to bat first, the Hertfordshire team amassed 167 all out from their 44.1 overs, despite Tom Buck taking 4-42 from nine overs. Ali Anthony returned figures of 2-22, Adam Gardner 2-38, Jamie Gollands 1-27 and Joseph Broomfield 1-31.
In reply, Wisbech were doing okay at 27-0 but when they lost opener Dom Stannard for 21 it triggered a collapse, with the team struggling to 31-5.
A sixth wicket stand between Broomfield (18) and Seb Bell took the score to 55-6, but then the final four wickets were taken for just two runs as Wisbech were dismissed for 58 from 25.5 overs.
In the same division, the game between Chatteris and Wilbrahams was cancelled.
In the East Anglian Premier League, Wisbech’s game at Horsford was abandoned without a ball being bowled, leaving both sides with seven points.

In reply, only a dogged 25 from 56 balls from Will Steventon showed resistance for the visitors as they struggled to match the required run rate and soon found themselves at 84-6.
Young then came into bat and showed some spirited resistance with his 26 from 60 balls, but when he was bowled, his side were 155-9, and they finished their allotted 50 overs with just one more run on the board.
