Wimblington tie with Chippenham in Junior League 4




Wimblington tied a low scoring game with Chippenham 2nd in our featured match on Saturday.

Batting first in the Cambs & Hunts CCA Junior League 4 North fixture, the home side were all out for 124 from 36.2 overs.

The visitors then recorded 124-7 from their 40 overs. The results leaves Wimblington sixth in the eight-team table.

Wisbech went into the match full of confidence after two wins on the bounce but, after being asked to bat, they were soon in trouble. Openers Gary Freear and Danny Haynes both went for ducks, and wicket keeper Josh Bowers went for four as the score stuttered to 17-3.

However, a 65-run partnership between Ryan Clark (35) and captain James Williams (63 from 64 balls, with eight fours and a six) took them to 82-4. Williams and Jamie Seabrook (56 from 73 balls with six fours and a six) saw them reach 126-5.

Jonny Garner (17) and George Gowler (28 not out) also chipped in before the tail was cleaned up cheaply, leaving the visitors at 209 all out from 48.2 overs.

In reply, Wisbech made an equally impressive bowling start to their opponents, two wickets from George Bruce (3-26 from 10) and one from Kieran Haynes (1-33 from six) seeing Witham rattled at 4-3.

However, a solid middle order performance, including a 99-run partnership, saw them reach their winning target, reaching 212-7 from 43.5 overs. Josh Porter took 2-56 from 11.5 and Gowler 1-53 off eight.

March were beaten by 35 runs at home to Ramsey in the Cambs & Hunts Whitings League Division One and are now bottom of the table after six games. March put the home team into bat and they made 228 all out from 52.4 overs, David Haselgrave taking an excellent 5-51 from 10.4 overs, with a wicket each for Callum Young, Phoenix Nightingale, Sam Robinson and captain Samuel Clarke.

In reply, March were all out for 193 in 55.1 overs, opener Robinson top scoring with 46, Will Steventon hitting 42, Clarke 22, wicket keeper Lewis Welcher 16, Callum Young 13 and Adam Conyard, Scott Welcher and Shae Pooley all 10.

There was victory, however, for Wisbech 2nd in CCA Senior League Division One, who are up to fourth after beating visiting Longstanton Grasshoppers by 114 runs. After electing to bat, the home team made a good 251-8 from their 50 overs, Sam Albutt making an impressive 110, Jamie Gollands 62, Chris Clark 19, and Joe Dunning, Dom Stannard and Thomas Hoyle all 12.

In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 137 from 36.5 overs. Top bowler was Simon Freear, who cleaned up the tail with his 4-14 from 4.5 overs. Clark took 3-18 off nine, Dunning 2-47 off nine and Brodie Ellis 1-21 from five.

Chatteris are bottom of the table after a nine-wicket defeat at Fulbourn Institute. After being asked to bat, the visitors registered a reasonable 198-5 from their 45 overs. However, the home side raced to 200-1 from 33.3 overs.

In Senior League Division Two, March 2nd lost by 87 runs at Ramsey 2nd. After being put into bat, Ramsey raced to 268-7 from 45 overs, Harry Lefevre taking 3-60 from nine, Nigel Wright 2-40 from nine and Charlie Bradshaw 1-69. In reply, March were bowled out for 181 off 37.2 overs.

In Junior League Three North, Chatteris 2nd won by seven wickets at home to Wilburton 2nd. The visitors decided to bat and made 152-9 from their 40 overs. Chatteris then raced to 153-3 from 28 overs.

In the same division, Wisbech 3rd beat Over and Willingham by 13 runs. After being asked to bat, the hoem side made 174-6 from 40 overs, opener Mark Buttriss top scoring with a 49 45 balls which included ten fours.

Coming in at number eight, Tom Freear made an explosive unbeaten 46 from 29 balls, with six fours and two sixes. Leo Hoenderkamp was also unbeaten, with six fours in his 38 from 69 balls, and opener Colin Freear scored 19.

In reply, the visitors made 161-6 from their 40 overs, Henry Plume taking 2-38 from eight, Tom Freear 1-15, John Mallett 1-27 and Henry Gowler 1-35.
