Winning start for Wisbech
Wisbech got their shortened season under way with a Whitings League victory at Eaton Socon on Saturday.
After losing the toss, the Wisbech bowlers knew they had to get early wickets on a good batting wicket and they did just that.
George Gowler took three 3 wickets in his first two overs and Wisbech soon had the visitors on 18-4.
However, they took the foot off the gas and conceded 50 wides as they allowed Eaton Socon to come back and score 201 all out, Gowler taking 3-37 and Kieran Haynes 3-50.
Openers Sam Albutt (47) and Danny Haynes (85 not out) got Wisbech off to a great batting start and were supported by Gary Freear (27) and captain James Williams (35 not out) as Wisbech scored the runs required for the loss of two wickets with 3.4 of the 40 overs remaining.
Wisbech host Foxton at home this Saturday, 12.30pm start.
