King's Lynn and Wisbech fighters star in action-packed boxing show at Skaters
Dpboxing Club head coach Damien Pearl hailed a Saturday show as a great night for the sport in the Fens.
A total of 15 bouts took place at Skaters, in Walpole Highway, in front of a healthy crowd of more than 500 spectators.
Also present among the crowd were Chatteris featherwight Jordan Gill, Wisbech super-welterweight Joe Steed and Newark pro Emma Dolan.
The show was a collaboration between Pearl's DP Boxing and Mark Flowers from the Motiv8 Gym in King's Lynn.
Reflecting on the show, which saw a number of Wisbech and King's Lynn fighters in action, Pearl said: "It was a really good night and we hope to host another show in early April.
"Both Dpboxing and Motiv8 have teamed up to put on and promote boxing events for people in the Fens and across West Norfolk.
"It's about trying to help people take the right path in life and promoting the sport across the region.
"Jordan (Gill) is a good friend of mine and it was good to have him here tonight. A lot of people look up and respect him. He's done so much for the sport in this area."
In the ring, there were wins for Dpboxing Club's Kye Bunce, Tom Lawson and Nedas Surkys while Connor Lee drew with Tomas Cegys from Wisbech Boxing Club.
There was also a win for Troy Staunston from the Wisbech Boxing Gym.
The presence of the three professional fighters helped with a raffle, which raised £836 for Dpboxing Club member Nathan Wagg.
Wagg, 34, is currently recovering in Addenbrooke's Hopsital in Cambridge following the seven hours of brain surgery last month.
The title-winning amateur boxer, who was raised in Wisbech, collapsed with pain in his head and was rushed to hospital with an AVM.
An AVM is an abnormal connection between arteries and veins bypassing the capillary system, which left Wagg with intense pain and bleeding in his brain.
The show was given the blessing of Gill, who was making one of his first public appearances since losing his EBU European Featherweight title to Kiko Martinez at the London Arena.
"It looks like a real professional boxing show out there, and they've done a really good job putting it on," admitted Gill.
"It gives people who have a 9-to-5 job the experience of what a day is like in my life and also the discipline they have to show in training to make it into the ring.
"It's good to see and it's entertainment at the end of the day. Anything that puts the sport in a good light is good for boxing."
