Wisbech eye Ramsey double in Division One of Cambs & Hunts Premier League

Wisbech Town will look to end their Cambs & Hunts Premier League Division One campaign on a high on Saturday by completing a double over play-off bound Ramsey.

James Williams' side has already beaten the league leaders once on their travels and knows if other results go their way they could finish the season as high as fourth in the table with a victory.

On Saturday, they registered their fourth league win on the bounce with a 26-run success over Sawston and Babraham 2nds at home.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Wisbech suffered an early blow by losing the wicket of talisman Gary Freear with the score on nine.

Danny Haynes (26) and Josh Bowers (32) repaired the damage with a second-wicket stand of 43 before Ryan Clark (47) joined Bowers at the crease following the dismissal of Haynes for a partnership of 56.

Wickets began to tumble regularly as the home side went from 108-2 to 133-6.

Skipper Williams hit 20 and Chris Clark 12, which proved crucial in the context of the match, as Wisbech were bowled out for 168 in the 50th over.

The home side had to remain patient in the field and, after an opening stand of 32, George Gowler made the vital breakthrough in the Sawston and Babraham reply.

Kieran Haynes picked up a couple of scalps as the visitors slumped to 43-3.

Ryan Clark (10-1-35-3) and Freear (10-2-20-3) took over with the ball as Sawston and Babraham were left reeling on 101-7.

There was a little bit of late resistance before Gowler picked up the final wicket with the score of 142 to leave Wisbech victors by 26 runs.

Gowler ended with the impressive figures of (7.4-1-25 -2) and Haynes (8-1-38-2) as all of the home bowlers did their bit with the ball.

Jone Dunning remained wicketless but only conceded 20 runs from his nine overs in a tight spell.
