Wisbech Inline Speed Skating Club are celebrating this week with the selection of 13 year old team member Eve McInerney for Great Britain.

She will represent GB at the Flanders Grand Prix International Roller Speed Skating event to be held in Belgium in August.

Eve has had a successful year at both the indoor and outdoor British Championships where she won gold at both events to become the British Champion in the relay races.

She started skating at the tender age of two years old and has been skating competitively since the age of eight. She has devoted many hours of training which has paid off with her selection into the British squad where she will be representing her age group.

Eve remains modest of her selection but said she’s very excited to be representing her country as part of the British team.

The McInerney family are no strangers to success with the club. Eve’s father Mike became European Champion at 18 as well at British Champion several times over. He currently holds the British title for the men’s relay and has most recently competed in the Masters category in the World Championships earlier this year where he finished inside the top 20.

Wisbech Inline Speed Skaters are a strong team with members ranging from 6 to 65 years of age, with many skating competitively, some being current British Champions, holding bronze, silver and gold medals and have a promising future ahead of them.

Many of the team are travelling to Belgium to not only support Eve but also to compete in races themselves.

The club welcomes new skaters. They train on Saturday evenings at Skaters roller skating rink in Walpole Highway. Contact the rink on 01945 882048 or see their website for more info at www.wisbechskaters.co.uk
