Wisbech lose crunch clash against leaders Ramsey
Second-placed Wisbech Town CC lost to leaders Ramsey by seven wickets on Bank Holiday Monday in a crunch Cambs Tucker League Division One clash.
Ramsey lost for the first time on Saturday at Foxton, while Wisbech crushed reigning champions Godmanchester by eight wickets.
Wisbech skittled Godmanchester for just 90 with Paul Edgeller (4-19), Gary Freear (3-18) and Jamie Gollands (2-2) the men in form with the ball. Captain Sam Albutt (37) gave the Wisbech innings a flying start before Josh Bowers (30no) saw them home early in the afternoon.
March are now second in Division One, one point behind new leaders St Ives.
A superb team effort saw them chase down 260 to beat Warboys by 4 wickets.
Bowling first, they began with an outstanding catch by Ant Palmer, who added a direct hit run out to reduce the visitors to 51-2.
Some indifferent bowling and sloppy fielding meant at one point 280-plus looked to be on the cards but a strong finish from March, with Andy Wright (2-45) and Tyler Phillips (2-39) the pick of the bowlers.
After a positive chat from the coach, Harry Vaheesan, Aussie man of the match Sam Freedman (65), James Harradine (55), Tommy Howgego (38), Brandon Phillips (34) and Rob Tombs (20) all made vital contributions to ensure victory with 10 balls to spare.
Partnerships of 59 (second wicket), 79 (fourth wicket), 54 (fifth wicket) and 40 (sixth wicket) helped to secure the 20 points. The 2nd XI fell 40 runs short against Old Leysians.
The 3rds beat St Giles by 38 runs at Doddington.
