Wisbech lose out to the weather but March win again




Wisbech Town slipped to fifth in the Cambs and Hunts Premier League Division One on Saturday after their game at home to Burwell and Exning was abandoned due to heavy rain.

The visitors had elected to bat and were 49-0 from 15 overs when the heavens opened. Wisbech are now 42 points behind leaders Ramsey with seven fixtures left.

March remain in second place in Division Three after a three-wicket home victory over Huntingdon. Harry Lefevre scrambled the winning single with just three balls of the innings left.

In a rain-disrupted game, Huntingdon scored 123-8 off their 30 overs. Shae Pooley took 3-23 and Sam Robinson 2-35, with a wicket each for Callum Young and Kian Pooley.

March needed to score 104 off 21 overs but collapsed to 22-4 before Sam Clarke hit 40, with five fours, and Toby Nulty 32, also with five fours, with Lefevre hitting the winning run.

Chatteris remain top of Senior Two, although their match at Telugu Association of Cambridge was abandoned with them agonisingly close to victory.

After being asked to bat, the home side were 181 all out from 37 overs, Shimron Thomas taking 3-30 from 7.1 overs and James Wood, Andrew Wool, Anthony Palmer and Billy Munns getting a wicket each.

In reply, the visitors were 171-7 from 42 overs when the rain came down. Charlie Munns hit 51 from 77 balls, Anthony Bamford 30, Ben Hollis 24 not out, Palmer 18 and Billy Munns 14.

Bottom side Wisbech 2nd lost their game at Linton Village by four wickets. The visitors batted first and were 153 all out from 35 overs, opener Dom Stannard hitting 11 fours as he made 62 from 69 balls. Jack Woollard scored 12 and Archie Grange-Hall and Oliver Overland ten each.

In reply, the home side reached their target from 36.3 overs, for the loss of six wickets, Henry Gowler taking 3-35 from nine, Chris Clark 2-14 from nine and Jack Woolard 1-26.

March 2nd continue to top Junior Four North after a six-wicket victory in the local derby at second-place Wimblington.

The home side were asked to bat and had an excellent 48-run opening partnership between Adam Baker 35 and Matt Day 27, before they collapsed to 104 all out from 36 overs. Youngster Tejas Madivada took 4-11 from eight overs, and man of the match Andy Wright 4-15 from five. Stuart Mills and Dennis Willis took a wicket each.

In reply, March fell to 36-4 with Theo Liversedge scoring 19 before vice-captain Mills hit an undefeated 37, with six fours, and Andy Wright 27 not out for a stand of 70, which took March to victory after 21 overs.

In the same division, Wisbech 3rd lost by ten wickets at Sutton. After electing to bat, the visitors were out for a dismal 32 off 12.1 overs, George Buttriss with 15 and Oscar Rideout with 14 getting 29 of them and seven players dismissed without scoring. In reply, the home side knocked off the required runs from just two overs.

In Junior Five North, Chatteris 2nd lost by seven wickets at home to Ramsey 3rd. After being asked to bat, Chatteris were 116 all out from 27.2 overs, with Ramsey making 119-3 from 23.3 overs. Wisbech 4th’s game at home to Camden 2nd was cancelled.
