Wisbech climb off bottom of East Anglian Premier League after recording successive wins
Josh Bowers and Gary Freaar were the stars with bat and ball as Wisbech made it back-to-back victories in the East Anglian Premier League.
Bowers fell just short of a century with the bat while Freaar returned the excellent figures of 8.2-0-36-5 as Saffron Walden were beaten by three wickets.
Wisbech's third victory of the season moved them up two places to tenth in the league standings as they again proved that they are capable of beating anyone on their day.
Having won the toss, Wisbech inserted the hosts into bat.
Saffron Walden lost wickets at regular intervals with Ryan Clark picking up three early scalps in his spell of 14-3-58-3.
Only Alex Peirson (42) and Ashleigh Cox (86 not out) offered any resistance as Freaar ripped through the home tail almost at will.
Set a revised target 199 from 56.0 overs, Wisbech clinched a comfortable win with three wickets and 15 balls to spare.
Bowers proved the catalyst for Wisbech's latest success with an 140-ball 92.
He received valuable support from Clark with 47 while a number of the lower-order batsmen chipped in with double figures to ensure there was no slip up.
The Fenland derby between Wisbech 2nds and Chatteris went the way of the visitors who upset the formbook to record a six-wicket success at Harecroft Road.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Wisbech struggled against a tight bowling attack who were all among the wickets.

Chatteris 2nds made it a clean sweep of wins against their Fenland rivals as their second team recorded a seven-wicket win at home to Wisbech 3rds in CCA Junior League 3 North.
Peter Gunn picked up 5 for 21 from his eight overs as only Nick Osbourne (41) made a significant score for Wisbech who were dismissed for a disappointing 119.
Chatteris opener Oli Bailey (51) laid the foundations for a Chatteris victory with a half-century and it was left to Liam Boxall (32 not out) to guide his side home.
In Division Two, March Town 2nds were 88-run winners over Saffron Walden 3rds after amassing 306 for 5 from their 45 overs.
In CCA Junior League 4 North, Wimbling, chasing 222 for victory, fell 66 runs shy at home to Burwell & Exning 3rds while Wisbech 4ths fell to a seven-wicket reverse at home to Haddenham despite a promising start from their opening pair at the crease.
