Seven-up Wisbech claim derby bragging rights against rivals March
Wisbech men claimed the derby bragging rights over March with a resounding 7-1 victory in a hotly-anticipated rearranged fixture.
The hosts found themselves 3-0 up after 15 minutes thanks to goals from Sam Markillie and a brace from Danny Haynes.
Haynes completed a first-half treble and Jack Bass made it 5-0 at half-time.
March came out strongly for the second half and pressed Wisbech a bit higher up the pitch.
Although March pulled a goal back through a well-worked short corner the result was never in doubt as Ryan Jackson and Markillie added to the tally to make the final score 7-1
Wisbech Men’s 2nds shared the spoils with Cambs South 3rds in a top-of-the-table clash.
After falling behind from a short corner, Ollie Brown levelled matters at 1-1.
Cambs South regained the lead just before the break but a strong passing move was finished well by Josh Bell to equalise the scores for a second time after the restart.
The Wisbech defence stood strong with some strong interceptions and tackles from Josh Shippey and Player-of-the-Match Jonathan Shippey.
Wisbech men's 4ths travelled away to Peterborough 7ths for their first fixture of 2024 and returned home with a hard-fought 3-2 win.
Despite the high Peterborough pressure, Wisbech's John Boyall cooly converted just inside 10 minutes to give Wisbech an early lead.
Although the home side equalised, Boyall popped up once again before the end of the half to restore the Wisbech lead.
Peterborough levelled for a second time, but Boyall had the last laugh as he completed his hat-trick.
Some excellent defending from Player-of-the-match Nidge Lowe ensured Wisbech didn't concede again.
Wisbech Ladies 2nds secured a 4-0 win at home against Kettering in their first game of 2024.
There were two goals each for both Amber and Emma while Player-of-the-match Amelia was strong in defence throughout the game.
Wisbech ladies 3rds hosted the club's 4ths and ran out 4-0 winners with Freya on the scoresheet twice.
Kirstie Harrison made some excellent saves for the 4ths while Player-of-the-match went to Louise Walker for her outstanding defensive work throughout.
