The annual Brian Lake Memorial Cup match was played at the Elgood’s Stadium on Sunday, with the Hares and Wisbech Town playing their part in an entertaining and bruising local derby.
Town started strongly, with Hares goalkeeper Tori Sharpe making some excellent early saves, but she could do nothing to stop Sophie Gutteridge slotting into the far corner to make it 1-0.
The Hares came back strongly and Louise Barbour equalised for them on 25 minutes with a chip from outside the area.
An Emma Frost cross was then turned into the Wisbech Town net by one of their defenders to make it 2-1.
On the stroke of half-time, the Hares’ Megan Webb was adjudged to have fouled a Wisbech Town player and Gutteridge scored from the spot, although ‘keeper Sharpe managed to get a hand to it.
The score was 2-2 at half-time and the second half produced less chances but definitely some strong challenges.
Barbour and Naomi McGarvie went close, but Wisbech Town sealed the win in the 80th minute, after Sharpe did well to stop the initial shot, Gutteridge pulled clear to steer it into the net.
The Hares went close with an Emma Searle free-kick but Wisbech held on to retain the trophy.
