Fenland drivers at the front of the action in big night of racing at King’s Lynn
Fenland drivers made the headlines in all formulas at King’s Lynn on Saturday night.
The main event was the UK Championship for the Micro Bangers.
Wisbech’s Brad Bartram was the early leader but his race looked finished when he was spun out of the lead by James Unwin.
Bartram re-entered around halfway down the field and chased down the leaders and with five laps to go was back in contention for the title.
The crowd were then treated to a thrilling battle for the lead with Bartram and Jamie Steele swapping positions at the head of the pack on every bend.
Steele was eventually at the front when the chequered flag fell but it was by the smallest of margins – little more than a bumper width.
Jack Maryon came home in third place for the second year in succession having qualified through the last chance race with James Licquorice also securing a top-ten finish.
Licquorice took the chequered flag in the first All-Comers race and also got a runner-up in his second outing whilst picking up three entertainer awards.
Lenny Murkin was also heavily involved in the action throughout the night in the Micro Bangers.
John Moat was the best finisher in the 1300 stock car final with a sixth-place finish with son Dean coming home in tenth. Canterbury’s National Points Champion Jacob Bromley took the chequered flag.
Good drives by Sonny Wright saw him pick up second and third-place finishes in the heats.
Levi Murkin won the meeting final in the junior bangers with the race also seeing a big double rollover which saw Wisbech’s Riley Crowson end up on the top of Jack Garrod Jnr.
Archie Horwood was in the places on his return to racing with Lincoln Douglas and Nick Bedford also scoring well.
It was a disappointing night for Jade Ellis who didn’t get in the top ten all night whilst Kiean Mayes produced his best drives since starting racing and it surely won’t be long before he starts racking up the points.
