Wisbech Inline Speed Skating team impress at British Inline Marathon Championship in Gravesend
The Wisbech Inline Speed Skating team recently competed at the British Inline Marathon Championship in Gravesend.
In the Pupil Girls Category, Leah Barker finished third in the 100m Sprint race - but took a controlling lead in her 8000m distance race, with the win never in doubt as she set an excellent time.
Kirby Barker won his 100m and also took the 8000m boys crown.
Arthur Buckler and Taylor Barker, both in the Cadet Boys category, took first and third place in the 100m and 15000m respectively.
Arthur also set very fast times in both distances.
Warren Eve finished fifth in the 42km marathon race for senior men, whilst Luke Frary finished third in the Masters Men category at the same distance.
Luke also finished second in the 100m sprint.
Lucy McInerney achieved a second place in the 100m and Marathon distances for the Senior Ladies.
Tim Fitches, a newcomer to the team, competed for the first time in a racing environment and was very pleased with his fourth place finish in the Masters Men category.
The Absolute Championship trophies were also awarded - a combination of Indoor, Outdoor Track and Marathon race meetings combined to become the overall British Champions.
Wisbech performed very well and have overall British champions in Danni Stafford-Allen (Mini Girls), Leah Barker (Pupil Girls), Kirby Barker (Pupil Boys), Arthur Buckler (Cadet Boys) and Lucy McInerney (Senior Ladies).
On the same weekend, Wisbech Coach Mike McInerney travelled to Mittelland Rollt in Switzerland to compete in the European Masters Marathon Championship on the British Team.
Mike finished in an excellent fifth position, with the first five skaters all within a few tenths of a second at just over one hour 13 minutes for the 42km distance.
That comes out at an incredible average speed of over 21mph on a rolling road course.
