Fenmen held 1-1 by basement side at Elgood’s Fenland Stadium

Wisbech Town FC picked up a derby win and a draw from their post-new year Evo-Stik Northern League Division One East period.

The Fenmen on Saturday were held 1-1 by basement side Stocksbridge Park Steels at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium.

This was after a New Year’s Day 2-1 victory at local rivals Spalding United.

Toby Hilliard’s seventh-minute opener, when played in by Michael Frew, was levelled out by Scott Ruthven’s 27th minute strike for Steels.

This ensured the hosts played out their ninth draw of the season against their fellow relegation-battlers.

Wisbech: Swan; Fairweather, Gaughran, Keeble; Murphy; Setchell, McQuaid, Millson (sub Hart 73 mins), Gale (Maddison 62); Frew, Hillard. Sub not used: Nkala.

Attendance: 194.

Fifth from bottom Wisbech Town next Saturday begin a run of five successive away league games at Loughborough Dynamo, who sit in fifth spot.

Wisbech are one of four teams lying on 21 points.
