Wisbech triumph in physical affair at Fakenham

Wisbech travelled to a high-flying Fakenham, knowing that a physical side was waiting for them.

With the rain pelting it down, both sides struggled to hold on to the ball which quickly became a bar of soap.

Five minutes into the game Fakenham fly-half Lloyd Marshall scored the first points with a well-earned penalty to put the home side three points ahead.

Only strong tackling from Men in Red stopped Fakenham from adding to their tally.

Wisbech then had their turn at attacking but were unable to breach the try line - coming close but a knock on over the line to ensure that only a singular penalty kick from Alby Malkin left the scores tied at half time 3-3.

A half-time rousing speech from director of rugby Leonard Veenendaal kicked Wisbech into gear.

Clever interplay saw Freddie Napier rolling back the years to cruise over the line, converted by Alby Malkin to add the extra 2 points to take a 10-0 lead.

However, Fakenham quickly struck back with a well-worked converted try from their full-back Murray Tindal to tie the scores.

Wisbech responded pilling on the pressure and a sin-bin for Fakenham caused Wisbech to gain a numerical advantage and score two tries from SolomanPrestidge.

Fakenham were not going down without a fight and kept coming at Wisbech, but an outstanding shift from Ari Baghdouyan kept them out ending the match and giving the away side a hard-fought 10-22 victory.

On Saturday, Wisbech welcomes March Bears to Harecroft Road for a 3pm kick-off in what is sure to be an exciting encounter.
